⚠️ SUPERSEDED — kept as history. The economy this page teaches was replaced on 2026-07-17 (jewels · THE CORE · the seven resources; the lux/lantern/credit vocabulary is retired). Nothing on this page is current. The living model is one page: the economy, now. This page stays because it records how the decisions were reached.

The Lantern

Craftee · the lapse hole is CLOSED ·

Your words, and they are now the mechanic

"Those three-to-five lux are the floor and they don't lapse. They just go dormant. You can wake them back up by doing enough practice in the realm where they are kind of chilling out dormant. You can re-light a room by doing practice — because when you go in there, you go in there with your ten embers, and your ten embers can re-light the lux. I think the lux can be visualised as a glowing ball inside a lantern."

So the lux is the glowing ballthe light itself — and the lantern is the socket it sits in. Money buys LANTERNS. Empty ones. Rooms you could light. Practice makes the LIGHT — and money cannot produce a single lux at any price.

⭐ Which is why the attack runs backwards. Buy fifty lanterns and you own fifty empty sockets — and to light one you must practise. Money does not reduce your practice burden. It increases it. The man who buys the most owes the most practice, so the ladder polices itself: nobody buys more sockets than they can light.

⚑ Corrected 2026-07-13, and I had it exactly backwards. This page shipped saying "money doesn't buy the lantern, money lights it." The council found the kill shot and Davi inverted it: if money could make light, a rich player buys his lanterns lit and frees every earned lux to heat his tokens — money buys odds. Selling the socket instead of the light is what closes that, and it is the whole economy in one move.

Watch the hole close

your 10 embersa pilot light, not a coin: they re-light lanterns and they never run out

You're paid up. 9 realms lit — 5 on the floor, 4 bought.

🕳️ What it used to do — and why it broke the whole promise

Three rules of yours, followed exactly: (a) you only earn lux where the lights are on · (b) a zero lux balance means you cannot apply to anything · (c) stop paying and the lux go out.

Follow someone who lapses: every light out → no lit realm → nowhere to earn → the balance never leaves zero → they can never apply to anything again. Not narrowed. Locked out — and the only key left is money.

Which inverted the sentence the whole economy rests on: "a rich person and a poor person walk up to the same gathering, and neither can buy their way in." True on day one — false for anyone who lapses. Going dark didn't remove the destination. It removed the road.

✅ What it does now

Bought lux are leased. Stop paying and those go out — that part was always right and it stays. The floor lux are yours. They don't lapse; they go dormant — the lantern still hangs there, the ball has just gone quiet.

And a dormant realm is still a realm you can walk into. You go in carrying your ten embers, you practise, and the practice re-lights the lantern. Then the lights are on again, so you can earn again, so you can apply again.

Money buys the lantern.
Practice buys the light.
We don't sell light. Nobody does.

That's the repair: you lose breadth and you keep the road. The promise stops being true only for newcomers and becomes true for everyone, forever.

The three states of a lantern

LIT
DORMANT
KINDLING
LIT The ball is burning. The realm is open, its Stewie is animated, and practice here earns lux.
DORMANT Not gone. Quiet. The lantern still hangs on your shelf and you can still walk in. The Stewie is asleep. Nothing was taken from you — you just stopped feeding it.
KINDLING You walked in with your embers and practised. The ember catches the ball. This is the only way back that isn't money — and it's always open.
✅ And then he shut the last two doors — the economy is closed

1 · The floor is ALL FIVE. (Ruled 2026-07-13.) He said "three-five"; the grant he dictated is 5 lux + 10 embers, and he confirmed the floor is the whole five. So the free tier has no second tier hidden inside it — a lapsed person keeps five realms they can wake.

2 · The embers NEVER run out. A pilot light, not a coin. (Ruled 2026-07-13.) This was the last way money could still have become the only key, and here is the trap he stepped around: if the ten embers were a stock that never came back, re-lighting was ten strikes and you're out. Ten wakes, then the last lantern goes quiet and money is the only key again — just later, and crueller, because by then the person believed they had a road.

Instead: the practice re-lights the lantern, and the embers are simply how you carry the fire in. They don't deplete. "Errant" means they wander back. So the floor is permanently wakeable, and the promise holds with no asterisk, for everyone, forever.

A rich person and a poor person walk up
to the same gathering —
and neither can buy their way in.

That sentence was true on day one and false for anyone who lapsed. It is now simply true.

The lantern, the dormancy and the ember re-light are yours, ruled 2026-07-13, and they're written through my lane. Designee holds the canon (lexicon + context) and Cody1 holds the state (a dormant lux is a row that stays, not a row that's deleted). Both are briefed. — Craftee
