⚠️ SUPERSEDED — kept as history. The economy this page teaches was replaced on 2026-07-17 (jewels · THE CORE · the seven resources; the lux/lantern/credit vocabulary is retired). Nothing on this page is current. The living model is one page: the economy, now. This page stays because it records how the decisions were reached.

The Inversion

The council killed the one-currency model — and handed us something better · Designee · 2026-07-13 15:40 WEDT

1 · The verdict: the collapse fails

Eight voices. Near-unanimous. Both Gemini twins, DeepSeek, Rudder, Gepetto, Gator, Llama and deGrok all reached the same place — and they rarely agree on the weather.

If money buys lux, and lux animate the token,
then money buys odds. The thesis is dead.

And the repair I proposed — same noun, two provenancesdoes not survive. Twin-Z put the blade in cleanly:

"A wealthy player simply buys 5 lux to light their lanterns, instantly freeing up 100% of their earned lux to heat their tokens. Money has purchased odds. To deny this is to deny basic accounting."

That is the substitution attack, and it is fatal. It doesn't matter that a bought lux can't touch a token. It only has to pay the rent that the earned lux would otherwise have paid. The firewall leaks through the shared pool.

DeepSeek went further and said the provenance flag is a deception the system cannot sustain — the moment the UI says "3 of your 8 lux are not eligible," you have already lost. deGrok called it "elegant theatre." They're right.

2 · The fix — don't collapse. Invert.

You said something in passing that nobody, including me, picked up:

"We give you five floating lanterns.
The floating lanterns are LIT BY one lux."

The lantern is empty hardware. The lux is the light that goes in it. You already separated the vessel from the fire. So stop trying to sell the fire.

MONEY BUYS THE LANTERN.
PRACTICE BUYS THE LIGHT.

One currency. Fully earned. Fully fungible. No provenance flag. No UI lie.

Now watch the substitution attack try to run — and run BACKWARDS.

A rich man buys fifty lanterns. He now has fifty empty sockets. To light a single one of them, he must practise. Buying lanterns doesn't free up his lux — it gives him more places that need lux.

Money doesn't reduce your practice burden. It increases it.

The attack doesn't leak. It reverses. The man who buys the most is the man who owes the most practice — and if he never practises, he is a person standing in a warehouse of fifty dark lanterns while a woman with her free five, all lit, walks into the gathering with a hot token.

"A rich person and a poor person walk up to the same gathering, and neither can buy their way in."

Now it isn't a promise in the copy. It's a fact in the arithmetic.

3 · Every broken rule comes back

The council was asked to list the wreckage of the one-currency change. Here is that list, run against the inversion.

The ruleUnder ONE-CURRENCYUnder THE INVERSION
Money buys breadth, practice buys depthDead — money bought depth by proxyPerfect. A lantern is breadth. Light is depth. Literally.
What you buy is LEASED; what you earn you KEEPIncoherentExact. Lanterns are leased hardware. Earned lux are kept forever.
The floor never goes out — it goes DORMANT, and practice re-lights itOrphanedUntouched. An unlit lantern is a dark lantern. You practise, and it lights. Your five are yours forever — only the light can go out.
An Ember can stand in as a luxNonsense — why borrow what you earn?Works. An Ember sits in an empty socket and holds the room until you've practised enough to relieve it.
The bought thing must sound coldViolated — you were selling warmthSatisfied. You are literally selling empty metal. It is the coldest possible offer. You buy the stage; you earn the dance.
lux = the light that LANDS on a surface (why it beat lumen)Inverted — you'd be "earning" what lands on youRestored. The lux lands in the lantern. It still falls. It just falls because you practised, not because you paid.

Nothing is orphaned. Nothing needs a flag. Nothing needs a tooltip apologising for itself. The single noun you wanted — you earn lux — is not only preserved, it is the only thing in the economy that money cannot touch.

4 · What the €5 actually says now

"Five lanterns. €5.
Five rooms you can light — once you've earned the light.
We don't sell light. Nobody does."

Cold, honest, and it teaches the whole economy in three lines. A twelve-year-old explains it to their parent as: "you buy the lamp, you have to make the fire yourself." That passes deGrok's test on the first try.

5 · Launch scope — MushMe cannot launch without Cody

Unanimous. Every single voice. No exceptions, no hedging.

Witnessing is the only source of mortar. No mortar → no tile seats → no token → no coin → nobody participates. And witnessing is Cody's faculty: observe accurately, assess, judge clearly, move on.

DeepSeek: "A launch without Cody is like building a temple with no priest — the architecture exists but the sacrament is absent. Users will earn lux, light lanterns, and have nothing to forge. The system will stall in one cycle."

The true minimum ember set for MushMe: Timey · Spacey · Gravity · Harmony · CODY. Five, not four.

reGrok's pragmatic out, if Cody is too heavy to build in full: a Cody-lite witness stub — the stop-motion review UI plus a logged judgement. That is already exactly the onboarding flow you described (two practices, ten seconds each, half-second frames, thumbs down if the self-rating doesn't match what you saw). You have already designed Cody's launch surface. It just needs to be named as his.

The inversion is MINE, not theirs. They killed the collapse; the fix is my synthesis of their attack. Nothing here is canon until you rule it.
